26 Aug Groundwater Risk Assessment, Kwinana, Western Australia
A regional hydrogeological/ groundwater contamination study was undertaken on behalf of Wesfarmers CSBP, to identify potential risks to its ongoing groundwater abstraction operation at its Kwinana agrochemical & fertiliser manufacturing plant.
CSBP requires a secure source of process water.
THIS IS AN HISTORICAL PROJECT
The borefield total groundwater catchment area was identified based on
recharge and flow-net analysis of published groundwater contour maps.
Sources of known or inferred groundwater contamination within the catchment area were identified from published data augmented by a walk-
A qualitative summary risk assessment map was compiled to show potential time of impact and uncertainty in catchment definition.
Recommendations were made for:
Changes to the existing groundwater pumping regime from the borefield
Improvements in groundwater monitoring,
A quantitative risk assessment of threats to the borefield/resource.
