04 Feb Western Australian Based Agrochemical Manufacturer, Kwinana. Environmental Management Plan,Arsenic groundwater plume
THIS IS AN HISTORICAL PROJECT PROFILE
A review of management options for an arsenic groundwater plume was
undertaken for a large agrochemical works in Kwinana, WA.
A review of existing site operations, historical spillages and leaks, and
existing monitoring data was undertaken. Arsenic contamination within
groundwater was present from residue spillages from a manufacturing plant, and leakage from former waste disposal operations.
A walkover survey with additional groundwater sampling was undertaken, together with preliminary hydraulic testing.
An occupational health and safety risk assessment addressing health risks to site workers was undertaken due to the presence of arsenic in soil and
A review of chemical treatment options was undertaken for the removal of arsenic from the recovered water.
A numerical groundwater model was used to identify options for pumped
recovery of the plume and recharge of treated water. Hydraulic containment and recovery was modelled using reverse particle-tracking techniques.
A cost review was undertaken of all recovery and treatment options.
Recommendations were made for implementation of the arsenic
